Now, there are no visible signs of the ancient war, but if you pause and listen carefully you imagine you can hear cries and screams echoing throughout the dark cold mountainsides about you. Bleak, yet mysterious the mountains loom above you, and you wonder what secrets might lie at their summits... A pass opens through the mountains to the east. Near the Blackened Mountains [Exits: east west down] The Old Southern Road turns towards the Blackened Mountains at this point, traversing the rocky and treacherous terrain lying in their wake. In the days when the road was maintained, travel through here wasn't so bad, but since then the way has been cloven with crevasses and blockaded with fallen rocks, making the trip quite perilous and wearisome. Atop the Great Barren Hill [Exits: north east south] A great hill of bare stone rises up above the forest, providing a good view of the outlying lands. The forest extends to the the horizon in all directions except north, where the Plains of Pinestria reside and east, where the Blackened Mountains protrude like great fangs against the skyline. The woods to the south look unnaturally dark and shrouded in mist, and you realize the Swamp of Jethusala must lie in that direction.
