On the Great Lake

You are sailing on a very large lake.  You can hardly see the shore
from here, but the water is not deep.  Actually, there are many rocky
islets around the lake, and you have to be careful not to strike rock. 
Now and then, you see a marble seal lazily lying on the rocks.  The lake 
continues in all directions.
